Drinking Horns and Tankards

Drinking horns were common in Viking Age Scandinavia. They were most commonly used for drinking, but they also played a fundamental role in various rituals and ceremonies. These Viking horn cups were treated with great importance, and many become precious family heirlooms passed through the generations.

Norse drinking horns are said to date back over 2,000 years and are referenced often in old stories and poems. In the sagas, Thor supposedly drank from a horn that contained all the seas. Drinking horns also feature in Beowulf, and fittings for Viking drinking horns have been found at the Sutton Hoo burial site in the UK. All our Viking horn mugs are handmade from natural Ox or Bison horn.
